High Pressure Water Jetting

Jetting removes what has built up inside a drainage system rather than just punching a hole through it — grease in kitchen runs, silt in yard gullies, scale and process residue in industrial pipework.

Rodding a blockage clears the obstruction. Jetting restores the pipe. On commercial systems that distinction matters, because most commercial blockages are not caused by a single object but by a gradual loss of bore: fat cooling and hardening along a kitchen waste run, silt settling in a yard drain, scale forming on the pipe wall over years of use.

Water at pressure scours that build-up off the pipe wall and flushes it downstream to a chamber where it can be removed. Done properly, the run goes back to something close to its designed capacity, which is why a jetted drain typically stays clear far longer than a rodded one.

When this service is used

  • Grease-laden kitchen and canteen runs

    Commercial kitchens, staff canteens, hotels and pubs generate fat, oil and grease that cools inside the pipe. Jetting is the standard method of removing it, and the standard way of preventing the blockage that follows it.

  • Yard, car park and surface water drainage

    Gullies, channel drains and surface water runs collect silt, grit, leaf litter and site debris. Left alone, they surcharge in heavy rain and flood the areas the site needs to keep open.

  • Interceptors and industrial systems

    Where an interceptor or industrial run has accumulated sludge, sediment or process residue, jetting is used to clear the system alongside proper removal of the arisings.

  • Slow-running drains before they block

    A drain that has started running slowly is one that is losing bore. Jetting at that point is planned work; waiting is an emergency attendance during trading hours.

  • Before a CCTV survey

    Camera footage of a silted or greased pipe shows very little. Runs are frequently jetted so the survey can actually assess the pipe wall and identify defects.

  • As scheduled preventative maintenance

    For kitchens and industrial yards, planned jetting at a set frequency is normally lower cost overall than reactive attendance whenever something backs up.

Problems jetting resolves — and problems it reveals

Jetting fixes build-up. Where the blockage returns quickly afterwards, that is useful information in itself: the cause is structural, not accumulation.

Process

How commercial jetting is carried out

The method is set by the pipe and the site: material, diameter, age, condition, and where the arisings and water are going to go.

  1. Step 1

    Assess the system

    We establish what the run is, what it serves, its likely material and condition, and what has been done to it before. Jetting an already-damaged pipe at the wrong pressure makes the situation worse.

  2. Step 2

    Set access and containment

    Chambers are opened, the working area is made safe, and arrangements are made for arisings and water so that debris is not simply pushed into somebody else's problem downstream.

  3. Step 3

    Jet the run

    Water is worked through the run to strip build-up from the pipe wall and flush it back to a chamber for removal, continuing until the run is flowing to its proper capacity.

  4. Step 4

    Verify and advise

    Flow is checked, the area is cleaned down and covers reinstated. Where the run behaved in a way that suggests a defect, we say so and recommend a survey rather than booking another jetting visit.

Why jetting matters for commercial premises

Commercial drainage rarely fails at a convenient moment. Kitchen runs back up mid-service, yard drains flood during a downpour when the site is at its busiest, and washrooms go out of use with the building occupied. Almost all of those failures are preceded by weeks or months of gradual build-up that jetting would have removed.

There is also a compliance and reputational dimension. Grease escaping into the public sewer, foul water surcharging into a trading area, or a flooded yard creating a slip hazard are not just drainage issues — they involve the water authority, environmental health, insurers and staff safety.

For facilities and property teams, jetting is one of the few drainage activities that can be planned entirely on your terms: known scope, known timing, out of hours if needed, and recorded against the property.
